GRANGEMOUTH verandas are wanted - to say it with flowers.
Falkirk Council is carrying out a range of environmental improvements in certain Grangemouth housing estates through HEROS - the Housing Estate Regeneration Outcomes Squad.
In the latest project, the Verandas Planting Scheme, the Council is offering to instal wall troughs and hanging baskets of flowers at flats in Torwood Avenue, Cultenhove Crescent, Croftside Court and Glenside Court to help brighten the area.

The floral decorations are free provided the tenant agrees to maintain the flowers and keep them watered throughout the summer season.

The planters and troughs will be installed by HEROS, a Council Employment Training Unit scheme.

Anyone interested in the verandas scheme can find out more and see examples of the troughs and baskets at the Project Office at 80 Torwood Avenue which is open for business every Monday.

The environmental improvement programme began in spring following ongoing consultation by the Council with local residents.

As well as the Veranda Planting Scheme, the HEROS is finishing off the two derelict washing greens at the rear of 26-36 Torwood Avenue and building fences to give defensible space to tenants.

Low level planting has been taking place behind the Project Office at 80 Torwood Avenue and will be carried out at other backcourts throughout the summer.

The Squad will also be undertaking footpath work at the desire line through the patch of grass at Cultenhove Crescent. Tenants will be kept informed of developments as and when they happen.

Newsflash

AN industrial landscape between Falkirk and Grangemouth is set to be transformed into an inspirational green space which will be open and accessible to all, thanks to a massive £25 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund to the innovative Helix project in Falkirk.

This massive injection of funding, planned to take place over the next six years, will allow the Helix project to radically transform the environment in the Forth Valley as part of the BIG Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks programme.  This award is the first of its kind in Scotland through this programme, and the largest ever awarded by BIG to individual projects so far.
