THE outlook for streets and public places is improving in the Falkirk Council area thanks to the Community Litter Strategy. Preventing litter, dog fouling and fly tipping are the aims of the Council's Community Litter Strategy through a range of initiatives aimed at local communities, schools, businesses, motorists and flytippers. Falkirk Council's Convener of the Environment and Heritage, Councillor Robert Spears, said: "We were absolutely thrilled to win a People and Places award which recognises Falkirk Council's commitment to tackling the problem of litter in the area. "Our Litter Strategy is making a real difference to the area's cleanliness standards and we're working closely with communities to identify ways of preventing litter in the first place - the only sustainable solution!" "By educating people about the issues which affect their streets, roads and open spaces, as well as supporting this with improvements in areas of service delivery and enforcement Falkirk Council has successfully delivered improved cleanliness standards of which staff and the public should be COMING SHORTLY A new roadside litter campaign is being launched by Falkirk Council which will include a new vehicle for more effective removal of roadside litter and flytipped waste and 30 new bins for lay-bys Look out for 'Drive It Home - Roadside Litter: There's No Excuse' Falkirk Council's high profile 'No Excuse' campaign has now been running for two years with the message appearing everywhere from litter bins to cinema screens. The Council's pro-active programme of enforcement patrols throughout the area has led to 128 fixed penalty fines being imposed for littering, dog fouling and flytipping and 71 warning letters being issued. Drivers seen throwing litter from their vehicles are also being fined. Operational arrangements are continually review to ensure that the Council's street cleansing service is as efficient and effective as possible. Litter and dog bin provision is also reviewed and since April last year 285 new and replacement litter bins and 84 new replacement dog bins have been installed. |

AN industrial landscape between Falkirk and Grangemouth is
set to be transformed into an inspirational green space which will be
open and accessible to all, thanks to a massive £25 million grant from
the Big Lottery Fund to the innovative Helix project in Falkirk.
This massive injection of funding, planned to take place over the next six years, will allow the Helix project to radically transform the environment in the Forth Valley as part of the BIG Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks programme. This award is the first of its kind in Scotland through this programme, and the largest ever awarded by BIG to individual projects so far. |
