The Helix Eco Park is an ambitious project conceived as part of the Falkirk Greenspace Initiative.
In the summer of 2005 the Big Lottery Fund launched the Living Landmarks and The Helix Eco Park project was identified as being eligible for this major funding programme.

During the autumn of 2005 a bid group of partners, Falkirk Council, Central Scotland Forest Trust and British Waterways Scotland supported by the project concept designers, further developed the project and in January 2006 a bid was submitted to the Big Lottery fund by Falkirk Council.
Key elements of the bid include landscape structure and connectivity, canal navigation and giant art works.
As the project developed THE HELIX ‘creating living connections’ was selected as the project bid title.
In April '06 THE HELIX was successfully long listed at stage 1 and was one of around 75 projects nationwide to receive an assessment visit. The latest fantastic news is that grant funding of £25 Million has been awarded in November 2007.
